Like you, our entire Creative Kids Academy family is grieving after the recent tragic school shooting in Minneapolis. Events like this are heartbreaking and unacceptable. They’re also a sobering reminder of why our safety work can never be “one and done.” Every child deserves a place where they feel secure, loved, and ready to learn. At CKA, we are committed to being that place for your family. To that end, we have a layered, ever-evolving approach to safety to ensure we protect children and staff across CKA’s 13 Twin Cities locations every day, in every classroom.
Secured entry & verified visitors
- Locked, controlled access at the main entrance during program hours; families have individual door codes and cameras are located at the outdoor entryways for additional verification.
- Only adults on a child’s authorized pick-up list may pick up a child; we do not release children on verbal permission alone.
- We check government-issued ID when non-parent authorized adults pick up.
Custody & court orders
- We follow court documentation on custody and communications. If documents change, please bring updated copies to your center immediately.
Staffing, screening, training & ratios
- Comprehensive background checks per Minnesota requirements.
- Ongoing supervision and adherence to state child–teacher ratios at all times.
- Ongoing training and development.
Preparedness & drills
- Each site maintains a written emergency plan that covers evacuation, relocation, shelter-in-place, and lockdown; plans are reviewed and drilled regularly with staff and children in age-appropriate ways, consistent with Minnesota DHS guidance.
Safety is not a checklist—it’s a culture we practice daily. We remain vigilant and committed to ensuring that CKA is a place where children can learn, grow, and thrive in a secure environment.
